A space to talk.
A space to change.
Is there something on your mind that's getting in the way? Whether you're carrying anxiety, struggling with low mood and stress, navigating a difficult relationship, or simply feeling stuck. Therapy can help.
My name is Jack Holland. I'm offering one-to-one therapy for adults in person and online. I work collaboratively, with people who want support in understanding what's going on and what could help. North Liverpool Counselling & Psychotherapy (NLCP) is the name of my private practice and reflects the need for more therapeutic services in the north of the city, where I am based.
I've always been drawn to people. Life stories, our struggles, compassion, and our capacity to change.
I'm Jack Holland, a UKCP Trainee Psychotherapist in my fourth year of training at the Manchester Institute of Psychotherapy, specialising in Transactional Analysis (TA).
I believe that being truly heard by another person is one of the most powerful experiences there is, and I try to bring that quality of attention to every session.
I work with adults across a wide range of difficulties, including anxiety, depression, relationship problems, bereavement, addiction, and more. You don't need to have everything figured out before you get in touch. Many people come to therapy not quite knowing what they need. Something might just feel off. That's a perfectly good place to start.

A collaborative process, at your pace.
My approach to therapy is grounded in Transactional Analysis (TA).
TA looks at how people communicate and offers a theory of personality, allowing for exploration of thoughts, feelings and behaviours. It's also a practical, accessible framework that gives us a shared language to work with.
I work relationally. Psychological wounds, or trauma, happen in relationships, but can also be healed in relationships. I see our earliest bonds, particularly with the people who cared for us, as central to how we come to see ourselves and the patterns we carry into adulthood. These patterns may no longer serve us. In sessions, we look not only at how the past impacts the present, but at how you relate to others, and to different parts of yourself.
In practice, this means our sessions involve a lot of conversation. I'll listen carefully, ask questions, and offer observations or reflections. You set the pace. There's no pressure to go anywhere you're not ready to go. From there, we set goals together and work towards the change you're looking for, checking in on that direction as we go.
Your safety, confidentiality, and our relationship within this space matter most.
TA's ego-state model: the Parent, Adult and Child states we all move between. We'll use this kind of shared language if it's useful to you, never as jargon for its own sake.
Adults facing a wide range of difficulties
Two areas I bring particular personal or professional grounding to:
Addiction & dependency
I bring direct experience from time spent working in community substance-use services, alongside a relational understanding of what dependency is often protecting us from.
Shame
An often hidden, but common thread in a lot of what brings people to therapy. We can look directly at where it comes from, and what keeps it alive.
This list isn't exhaustive. If you're unsure whether what you're experiencing is something I can help with, please get in touch. I'm always happy to have an initial conversation.

Common questions
You're training, what does that mean for me?
My work is closely supervised by a UKCP-registered psychotherapist and trainer with TSTA status, and every part of my practice is reviewed to make sure it meets ethical and professional standards. I hold professional indemnity insurance through Balens, and have both written authorisation from my training organisation (MIP) and full endorsement from my supervisor to practise privately during my training, which concludes in 2027.
Alongside my training as a psychotherapist (Level 7 Diploma - Transactional Analysis From An Integrative Perspective, MIP), I've spent 7+ years working with children in care. I've completed the Level 1 Certificate in Dyadic Developmental Practice, Psychotherapy & Parenting (DDP Institute, May 2025) and the Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills (Compass Counselling, CPCAB, June 2023).
Alongside my private practice, I also work 1:1 with clients in a community substance-use service, a placement I've held for the past 16 months and continue in.
Is what I say confidential?
Yes, within the ethical and legal limits of professional practice. This means everything you share stays between us, except in rare situations where I'm required to act to keep you or someone else safe. I'll always explain this fully before we begin working together.
What actually happens in a session?
Mostly conversation. I'll listen, ask questions, and sometimes offer reflections, while you set the pace and the direction. We'll initially set some goals that I'll help you work towards. Sessions may revolve around this, or you may decide to bring something new. Either way, you'll be given the time and space to explore your unique lived experience. There's no pressure to talk about anything you're not ready to.
How many sessions will I need?
It varies. Some people come for a few months to work through something specific; others prefer longer, open-ended work. We can talk through what might suit you in an initial conversation, and revisit it as we go.
What's your cancellation policy?
I ask for 48 hours' notice if you need to cancel or change a session, or the session is charged in full.
Do you offer therapy in person, online, or both?
Both, plus telephone if preferred. In-person sessions are held at Fazakerley Community Federation, Formosa Dr, Liverpool, L10 7LQ. Online and telephone sessions are available anywhere in the UK.
